Under the economic reform and open policy, China's trade in forest products is increasing rapidly by introducing foreign investment and stimulating exporting. Taking China's trade in forest products as its research object, this paper analyzed the trend in forest products trade and its relationships with related economic and forest management policies. This paper also analyzed the time trend of production and consumption of some main forest products from 1993 to 2005. During this period, a fast increase in roundwood and sawnwood import, plywood export and paper and paperboard import was witnessed. China has changed from simply importing forest products to processing trade, i.e., importing and processing roundwood and exporting processed products. In this period, the return of added-value tax policy has been playing an important role in export of forest products. It is understood that governmental policies have great impacts on the development of foreign trade in forest products.
