Effect of deoxidation on machinability of low carbon resulfurized steel with 0.5mass% of sulfur content were investigated. Both life of carbide tool steel and roughnesss of machined surface have a negative peak value at the same amount of oxygen content in these steel. These phenomena primarily depends on behavior of built-up-edge(BUE). Tool life and surface roughness increases as the height of BUE grows up. The height of BUE is affected by sulfide morphology and other factor such as sulfide composition, fineness of microstructure, which are determined by oxygen content and deoxidiser.
