It is well known that the center segregation of the CC (continuous casting) products are desirable to be decreased because it is harmful to the mechanical property of the steel. In this paper, optimum EMS (electromagnetic stirrer) stirring conditions for improvement of the center segregation of high carbon steel produced by CC caster are studied by means of the model experiments.
The experiments indicate that the equiaxed crystal ratio has less effect on the center segregation, and the stirring timing has much effect on it.
It is concluded that the optimum EMS stirring conditions are as follows.
(1) The timing of the stirring is the point where cross-sectional solidification ratio is 0.6-0.7.
(2) Stirring intensity (=B2f, where B (Gauss) is magnetic flux density and f (Hertz) is frequency) is 200×104.
(3) Alternative stirring is effective than the uni-directional stirring.
