We have estimate the formation temperatures of chlorites occurred in the hydrothermal alteration halo around Toyoha vein type ore deposit, Hokkaido, using the chlorite chemical geothermometer developed by Inoue et al. (2009). We focused on the determination of the ferric iron contents in chlorites by means of XPS in this study. The estimated temperatures were compared with the present subsurface temperatures and the filling temperatures of fluid inclusions in associating minerals in order to verify the chlorite geothermometer.

The effects of charge density in clay structure on the photochemical behavior of adsorbed porphyrins were examined. The self-quenching and energy transfer reaction between porphyrins on the clay surface were investigated. As charge density of clay is lower, the energy transfer efficiency tends to be higher. The suppression of self-quenching process would afford the efficient energy transfer reaction.

In photosynthetic bacteria,the light-harvesting system with regularly-arranged bacteriochlorophylls collects sunlight efficiently.And carried the energy smoothly to the reaction center.We have achieved to develop an interesting porphyrin-clay complex in which the porphyrin molecules densely adsorb on the clay sheets without aggregation.In this work,we focus in the energy transfer reaction between porphyrin dyes on clay.In result,we have enhanced the efficiency of energy transfer by choosing appropriate porphyrins.We found out intermolecular distance affects the efficiency of energy transfer.

When amphiphilic cations are spread on a dispersion of a smectite clay, the clay nano-sheets are adsorbed on the floating molecular-layer of the amphiphilic cation to form a organo-clay hybrid monolayer. Because the positive charge density of the cation is lower than the negative charge density of the clay nano-sheet, the surface of the film transferred onto a substrate indicates cation-exchange capacity. In this work, we have successfully prepared anion-exchangeable hybrid films by increasing the positive charge density of the cation.

Montmorillonite samples often contain water soluble salts. Removal of the salts induces change in viscosity of the suspensions.
The change of viscosity may be due to the difference in modes of particle-particle association in montmorillonite suspensions. The difference in modes is presumably attributed to aspect ratio of montmorillonite particles.

A new method for imogolite synthesis has been investigated. Previous results, we have shown that dialysis membrane method can be used to produce orthosilicic acid from dissolution of polysilicic acid. Now, we used decomposition of urea to replace NaOH for proto-imogolite formation. Results show that nano-tube imogolite can be synthesized easily.
