We made a computer program, which calculate the adsorption behavior of cationic porphyrins on the anionic clay surface. The clay charge was calculated from all-atom charges. The interaction between the clay and the porphyrin was calculated from coulomb interaction.

Recently, delaminated sheets or fine particles of layered double hydroxides have been intensively studied as building blocks for nanocomposites. Systems that consist of delaminated sheets or well-dispersed nanometer-sized platelets in media are microscopically observed as colloidal suspensions. The present study focuses on differences in particle shape and size and in reassembling behavior of colloidal particles between two colloidal systems in water.

We describe a topochemical synthetic approach to well-crystallized layered double hydroxides (LDHs) based on various combination of di- and tri-valent transition-metal elements (M
2+-M
3+) such as Co
2+-Fe
3+, Co
2+-Co
3+ and Ni
2+-Co
3+. Furthermore, LDHs were successfully exfoliated in formamide to obtain unilamellar nanosheets.

We studied that a relations between a dynamic strength and clay minerals in sand strata in Pleistocene time. In the result, we could not recognize relationships between kinds of clay minerals and the dynamic strength. Cements as cristobalite and iron oxide were observed, we were conceivable that these materials influenced the dynamic strength of unconsolidated sandy strata.

A topochemical route was introduced to synthesize highly crystallized hexagonal microplatelets of Co-Ni LDHs. Treating brucite-like Co-Ni hydroxides prepared by homogeneous precipitation with excessive bromine in acetonitrile promoted partial oxidization of Co
2+ into Co
3+ and the formation of Br
--intercalated Co-Ni LDHs inheriting the hexagonal morphology. The nitrate-intercalated samples could be exfoliated into unilamellar nanosheets on contact with formamide.

Highly emitting amphiphilic Ir(III)complexes were prepared. A thin hybrid film of Ir(III) complex and saponite clay was prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett method. The film was used as a sensor of oxygen gas by monitoring emission intensity.

The authors have done the research and development of a composite material for hydrogen tanks. It is a multilayered material alternatively laminating high-gas barrier clay films developed by AIST and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) layers. The material is used as the resin liner of the lightweight hydrogen tank.
In this report, it introduces hydrogen barrier property of the clay film-CFRP composite material. Additionally, it reports concerning the manufacture process of the high pressure hydrogen tank for fuel cell car.

The film coated by tabular inorganic filler with water-soluble resin is known as a gas barrier film for the food packaging. The gas barrier of the film rises when the aspect ratio of filler is higher. Sodium Tetrasilisic mica particle has a high aspect ratio. When the coated film was observed by SEM, high aspect ratio particles of Sodium Tetrasilisic mica were arranged to parallel for surface.
