Many applications of bioceramics for bone reconstruction and bone tissue engineering are under progress. However, fabrication of ceramics adaptive to individual defect is still unsolved. In the present study, application of 3D Printing to fabricate free form objects was considered. In this method, however, it is difficult to find the biocompatible ink to solidify hydroxyapatite. On the other hand, gypsum has been used as biomaterial to fill the bone defect. Then, we tried to fabricate ceramics with the compound powder of hydroxyapatite and gypsum by using water based ink.

A rapid prototyping technique, 3-D printing can fabricate any shape of model by gypsum. From our previous experiment, gypsum sample fabricated by 3-D printing could be transformed easier than that of plaster of Paris to hydroxyapatite when treated in ammonium phosphate solution. However, the time consumes to transform the specimen with 4-mm thickness, is quite long. In the present study, the samples of the mixture of 3-D printing and HA are fabricated and treated in 1 M ammonium phosphate solution at 80 C. The transformation to HA of surfaces and the inside parts of the specimens are investigated.

Application of electron beam irradiation system to polish dental prostheses is under progress.In the past reports on the surface roughness and glossiness measurment,we concluded that EB system was applicable for the polishing in the intermediate finishing step.In the present study,surface hardness was observed. further study on the corrosion resistance is now under progress.

Amino-terminal-modified polyethylenegrycols (PEG) were electrochemically immobilized to titanium surface. Immobilized PEG was immobilized with both amino terminals as NH2 like a loop under a certain proper condition. The adsorption of proteins as well as adhesion of cells to titanium is controled using this technique.

As for titanium and titanium alloy the application as the dental material. On the other hand, there is some report on the allergy of the titanium. As the metal which replaces the titanium, the zirconium which is a metal of the equal group is considered. Then, mechanical properties on the zirconium - niobium binary alloy was examined from tensile chracteristics.
