We evaluated gene expressions of LPS-activated human monocytes THP-1 exposed to LD
50 concentration TEGDMA by DNA microarray, and found that 931 genes were up-regulated and 631 genes were down-regulated. Largest up-regulated genes were xenobiotic metabolism cytochrome P450 enzyme-related and anti-oxidant enzyme-related.

The objective of the study was to investigate adsorption of adhesive protein fibrinogen and fibronectin on a plate of gold and titanium as a first step in the analysis of reactions on the interface between tissues and dental alloys. The adsorption test was performed each gold and titanium was immersed in the fibrinogen and fibronectin solution. The amount of adsorbed fibrinogen and fibronectin was analyzed quantitatively using a biochemical method. Surfaces of gold and titanium after performing an adsorption and desorption tests were observed by means of an atomic force microscope under aqueous conditions.

Ti was biologically modified with photoreactive gelatin in order to regulate the attachment of cells. Photoreactive gelatin, which was synthesized by the coupling reaction of gelatin with N-(4-azidobenzoyloxy) succiminide, was immobilized onto Ti surface by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. With the photo mask in place, micropatterning of the gelatin was performed. This pattern was confirmed by optical microscopy and time-of-flight secondary ion-mass spectroscopy (TOF-SIMS). Monkey COS-7 epithelial cells and mouse STO fibroblast cells were cultured on the pattern-immobilized plate. A significantly higher degree of cell attachment was found on the photoreactive gelatin-immobilized regions than on those that were not immobilized.

In this study, on conventional dentine adhesive tests, first the morphology of test sample was classified, secondly fracture strength and failure mode were defined, and third the effect of adhesive strength was clarified. As a result, a new micro test was proposed. In using cylindrical sample or micro shear test sample, the value obtained was not shear strength, and also an apparent one. Thus, in this study, the new micro shear test proposed first by the authors gives a real adhesive shear strength.

1.Novel adhesive has been composed of 2 liquids of aldehydedextran and the polylysine which controlled the amino group. 2. It is possible that our new adhesive optionally changes adhesion speed and biodegradability.3. It was shown that the effect which prevents the air leak of the lung in the thoracic surgery region was high for this adhesive. 4. It was proven that the adhesive demonstrated the excellent effect which as a hemostasis in the digestive surgery region.5. This adhesive was effective as a hemostatic in the cardiovascular surgery region.

Simvastatin acid (SVA) has been reported to stimulate bone formation with increased expression of BMP-2. Because of the multi-functional characteristics and bioadaptability, cyclodextrins (CyDs) are capable of alleviating the undesirable properties of drug molecules through the formation of inclusion complexes or the form of CyD/drug conjugates. This study deals with the release properties of SVA from CyD/SVA conjugates.

Recombinant human BMP-2 was combined with FRIOS Algipore, calcified algae-derived porous hydroxyapatite, and was applied to direct pulp capping in rats. Reparative dentin formation induced by the composite was analyzed, compared with calcium hydroxide having been used conventionally. The composite formed quantities of thick reparative dentin that has dentinal tubules. Moreover, the composite induced reparative dentin formation without the formation of necrosis layer underneath it, indicating that it is a bio-compatible material for dentin formation.

The present study evaluated the dynamic viscoelastic behavior of commercially available dental composites by Split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) testing machine. Five commercially available composite resins, conventional hybrid composites, a packable composite, a flowable composite, and a nanofill composite, were evaluated. As a result, all specimens exhibited a nonlinear stress-strain curve in the loading process. Within the limitations of this investigation using SHPB, it was indicated that the loss tangent increased with increasing filler content.
