The structure and protectiveness of the passive film formed on Ni-Ti alloy in Hanks solution containing proteins were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques. The protein molecules quickly adsorbed on the Ni-Ti alloy surface and a lot of defects were intriduced in the passive film aged and grown on the Ni-Ti alloy, which resulted in a decreased protectiveness of the passive film.

Anodic polarization curves of magnets composing dental magnetic attachments were measured in 0.9%NaCl solution, and corrosion resistance of the magnets were estimated by obtained pitting potentials. In addition, safety of the dental magnetic attachments were discussed by comparison of the pitting potential and corrosion potential in contact with precious alloys used for root caps.

The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance to fluoride of Ti-Cr casting alloys depended on the chromium contents in its castings. However, the surface reaction of the Ti-Cr casting alloy toward fluoride is not clarified. In this study, the Ti-Cr castings with different chromium contents were immersed in a 0.2% sodium fluoride-containing acidic saline solution, and the castings before and after immersion were examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Finally, the surface reaction of the castings was discussed.

In a human mandibular model with anterior zone oblique to frontal plane, internal and external forces were analyzed by strength of materials. Bending moment and torsion moment were rorated at the bilateral canine regions. In the anterior zone, shearing force was unchanged, but bending moment and torsion moment were changed at the symphysis. There existed a hyperbola function relationship between bearing ratio of balancing side to working side in masticatory muscle force and corresponding loading ratio in TMJ reaction force. The method in this study is suggested to be clinically useful for analysis of internal and external forces of a human mandible.

In order to develop new adhesion theory of dentine adhesion systems in new generation,fracture mode and fracture strength in one-step one-bottled system was discussed theoretically,including three-step system. In this study,four layers and three interfaceswere distinguished within the test sample which has hybrid layer, whereas the sample with no hybrid layer was also discussed. As a result,fracture strength in adhesive resin layer was affected,due to the cure performance of the layer, microcracks(morphology and volume fraction) and elasticiy. On the basis of their fracture behaviours of the samples,adhesion strength of one-step one bottled system in the new generation was defined.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a phosphoric acid ester monomer on resin bonding to titanium. XPS demonstrated P 2p peak representing phosphate groups from MDP appeared and shifted to a lower binding energy. These facts indicate that MDP strongly and chemically adsorbed on the Ti surface. For tensile bond strength measurement, Ti plates were treated with experimental primers consisting of, respectively, MDP in concentrations of 0.1, 1 and 10wt%, or were kept untreated (control). The highest tensile bond strength of Panavia Fluoro Cement to Ti was obtained when the Ti surface was pre-treated with 10wt% MDP and was significantly higher than that when a lower concentrated MDP-based primer and control. Altogether, the data obtained strongly suggest that MDP is effective to improve the adhesive performance of resin to titanium.

To develop metal-polymer composite with high mechanical strength and flexibility for implants, commercially pure titanium (Ti) combined with a segmentated polyurethane (SPU) through a 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propylmethacrylate (g-MPS) as a coupling agent. Bonding strength between Ti and SPU was increased with increasing thickness of g-MPS layer. SPU cohesion failure were observed and bonding strength increased with increasing of SPU cohesion failure Area.
