The mechanical and dielectric properties of Ca1-xSrxTiO3 ceramics were improved by adding Li2Si2O5, and a low temperature sintering was achieved. The microstructure, mechanical properties and dielectric properties greatly depend on the value of x in Ca1-xSrxTiO3, additive concentration and the sintering parameters such as temperature, time etc. These Ca1-xSrxTiO3 dielectrics were successfully used as the dielectric barriers to break CO2 by a dielectric barrier discharge plasma in a planar reactor, and compared with Al2O3 and silica glass, A much higher CO2 conversion was achieved because much stronger current pulses and much denser microdischarges were generated during the plasma ignition by this Ca1-xSrxTiO3.

The effects of SrCO3 addition on dielectric loss and microstructure of AlN ceramics were explored. Different amounts of Y2O3 and SrCO3 were respectively added as sintering additives to AlN powder and pressureless sintering was performed at 1900 ºC for 2 hours in nitrogen flow atmosphere. Effects of additives on dielectric loss and microstructure of AlN ceramics will be reported.

A dynamic response of SnO
2 gas sensor was investigated. A sensor element was fabricated by the electrospray pyrolysis method from SnCl
2 ethanol solution. Methanol was used for an examined gas and was supplied by bubbling synthesized air through methanol at a flow rate of 50 sccm. The operating temperatures were 473, 523, 573 and 623 K and the temperature of the sensor element was abruptly increased by 100 K for 270 s with a local heater beneath the element. The change in conductance of the element was measured under various conditions.

The crystal structure of LaCuOS is composed of La
2O
2 and Cu
2S
2 layers alternately stacked along the c axis. It was reported that LaCuOS is widegap p-type semiconductor, and exhibits sharp photoluminescence originating from room-temperature excitons. In this study, we investigated electrical resistance response of LaCuOS to reducing gases such as methane, ethanol, and ammonia. Temperature dependence and gas concentration dependence of the resistance response were also examined in detail.

Electronic structure of GdCuOSe layered oxyselenide was examined using ultraviolet or X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and the obtained spectra were compared with those of LaCuOSe. Gd ions in GdCuOSe are in trivalent states and their electronic configuration is 4f7. The UPS spectra of GdCuOSe and LaCuOSe are similar each other, and Gd 4f7 states in GdCuOSe were not observed clearly. On the other hand, a remarkable difference between GdCuOSe and LaCuOSe was observed in the XPS spectra, revealing that the Gd 4f7 states in GdCuOSe are located at the binding energy of 8.3 eV.

Through hydrogenation and oxidation of rare earth-iron intermetallic compounds, Fe metal, alloy, or compound-based nano-composite powders were synthesised, their microwave absorption properties were characterized in a range of 0.5-40 GHz. They found to show good absorption properties in the rabge of 2-20GHz to reduce the interference problems induced by the application products.

Micro-patterning of ferroelectric thin films is one of the main issues in the manufacturing of ferroelectric micro-devices. This study reports a novel technique for the fabrication of ceramic micropatterns on conductive substrates. Polymer micropatterns made by electron beam lithography are used as lost molds at the surface of the substrates. These substrates are then immersed into nano-crystallite suspensions and an electric filed is applied to perform electrophoretic deposition. Thereafter, the over layer is polished and the molds are removed by dissolving the polymer in organic solvent. The obtained ceramic micropatterns are then sintered and characterized.
