Abstract
This study aimed to conduct an online interactive appreciation for disabled people and demonstrate how participants create interpretations and how their opinions and ideas interact through dialogue. The participants were six adults with intellectual disabilities mainly attending welfare facilities. The appreciation session used Senko Kobayashiʼs “Milk Maid” from the collection of the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum and was conducted in an interactive setting with the museumʼs curator as the facilitator. The analysis results of their interactionsʼ recording of each participantʼs dialogue showed that they were able to generate their own interpretations based on evidence and reconstruct their ideas by adding, changing, and combining their ideas with those of others. This study shows the effectiveness of bringing art-based activities into communities that include disabled people. Furthermore, it promotes a reconsideration of views of disability and ability.
