Abstract
The current study is part of continuing research on speech by teachers during classes on arts. This study examined the versatility and validity of a teaching program using indices for speech analysis that were devised in a previous study. Like in the previous study, school teachers participated in a seminar on speech analysis, and the following action research was conducted on what they discussed. First, the instructor and 2 other teachers discussed an analysis of speech during an arts and crafts class in elementary school. At the same time, 2 teachers who had participated in the previous study observed the discussion and identified the “views” inherent in that discussion. In light of those approaches, the current study discusses the significance of “views” in the study of teaching. The following points became apparent as a result. First, a teaching program involving analysis of speech by teachers was a versatile way to study teaching by teachers in the classroom. Second, participants shared their “views” during the discussion. Third, participants need to be aware of their own and othersʼ “views on children” through discussion.
