【Purpose】We have found conditions that can induce arteriosclerosis accompanied by calcium phosphate deposition from hypoperfusion in model animals. Based on the findings, in this study we attempted to create a new model in which calcium phosphate is deposited in the aorta, and analyzed its pathology.
【Methods】After 6-week-old male SD rats were acclimated for 6 days, a catheter was inserted into the abdominal aorta and the abdominal aorta was ligated over the catheter. Sacrifices were 24 and 48 hours after the treatment, and the abdominal aorta was pathological analysis.
【Results】Calcium deposition area tended to increase after 24 hours of treatment and significantly increased after 48 hours of treatment compared to untreated. The pathological images observed in animal model were consistent with those reported in human aorta. This animal model can be used as a new model of vascular calcification in nutritional research.
