History and Social Duties in Future of the AATEX: Alternatives to Animal Testing and Experimentation

The AATEX (Alternatives to Animal Testing and Experimentation, ISSN 1344-0411) is a specialized journal of the Japanese Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (JSAAE) first published by Professor Tsutomu Sugahara in 1990. It is also the only journal in Asia that has been proposing alternatives to animal experiments. A total of 18 volumes have been published so far, and a number of researchers were involved in its editing. Although it is a low profile journal, its assertions are very clear. We have a responsibility to treasure this journal, which has been continuing since its first publication owing to the efforts of many researchers, and develop it into a more significant journal. We discussed the problems faced by the AATEX not only the journal history.
