Abstract

The pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) tapes are utilizing in a wide range of fields. The PSA properties are dependent strongly on the mechanical properties of PSA, especially the stringiness as the typical deformation behavior at peeling of PSA.So, the apparatus which can observe the top and side views of stringiness behavior of PSA was prepared. The stringiness behavior of the acrylic PSA with different crosslinking degree was observed with wide range of peeling load. The exact peel rate of each peeling was also measured. As a result, the true strain rate of PSA at peeling can be calculated from the measured exact peel rate and the stringiness width and length. Moreover, the stringiness width and length during the cohesive failure process can also be measured using the apparat us. In future, the peel strength of PSA expected to be designed by using the mechanical properties of PSA polymer such as the stress-strain curve at the tensile rate corresponding to the exact strain rate at peeling.
