Fatty Amines-Intercalated α-Zirconium Phosphate as Latent Thermal Curing Agents

Abstract

Fatty amines as curing agents of epoxy resins were intercalated into α-ZrP: 1,3 propanediamine(α-ZrP・PrDA), 1,4 butanediamine(α-ZrP・BuDA), and diethylenetriamine(α-ZrP・DETA).The intercalated α-ZrP as thermal latent curing agents were examined with reaction of glycidylphenyl ether(GPE). The conversion factor of GPE at 140℃ for 24 h, the conversions were 94% for α-ZrP・BuDA and 89% for α-ZrP・DETA. As the conversion of α-ZrP・PrDA was 47%. The conversionof α-ZrP・PrDA was lower than that of α-ZrP・BuDA and α-ZrP・DETA. The thermal stabilitiesat 40℃ for 15 days were tested. The reaction did not proceed in the presence of all intercalatedcompounds. α-ZrP・BuDA and α-ZrP・DETA were served as good thermal latent curing agents inthe reaction of GPE.
