Abstract

The Next Generation Safeguards Initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy is examining 14 new technologies for the non-destructive analysis of the plutonium in spent nuclear fuel. Ten of these techniques analyze the neutrons coming from the fuel. They detect how the plutonium changes the neutron multiplication, the neutron coincidence, and the neutron energy spectrum.
