Abstract
Although the speech and language classes are classes where children who stutter (CWS)in regular classes, receive speech and/or language instructions weekly, the details are not well known. In this study, we introduced an overview of the speech and language classes in Tokyo and our instruction for children who stutter. First, we described the laws related to the speech and language classes, and mentioned that the number of CWS is on the increase. A number of CWS attend classes at other schools rather than their own schools for one or two hours once a week. Moreover, we mentioned admission systems, and informal instruction. Regarding our instruction for CWS, we conducted fluency shaping and, as necessary, stuttering modification as approaches to the speech. As approaches to the emotion and attitude, we taught problem-focused coping skills for stuttering. In addition, guidance for homeroom teachers and classroom presentation for understanding stuttering were mentioned. Finally, we discussed future issues to improve the instructions in the speech and language classes.
