Fifteen strains of Aspergillus flavus isolated from naturally infected cadavers and frees of the silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) showed strong pathogenicity and oral toxicity of their culture broths to the larvae, and high tolerance to formaldehyde. All strains produced aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, and G2 on a liquid medium. Also, some strains produced high yields of B1 and G1 on rice, and one isolate (SP4) among them formed the highest level of B1 (624 μg/g) and G1 (560 μg/g). Aflatoxins were detected in living worms artificially infected with SP-4 isolate of A. flavus.
