Abstract
This experiment was carried out at the Ono Original seed Department of the Kanagawa Prefecture Agircultural Experimental Station for the purpose of seizing the condition of wheat crop from the point of the relation of the different forms of seed-beds and ridge-forming with the growth of wheat and also the meteorological influlences which have relation to it.
The results are as follow:
1) The different of the forms of seed-beds brought influence of the underground temperature depend upon the height of the sowing point, and different of forms of ridge forming showed still more influence.
These results related both especially early stage of wheat. The germination, age of leave, number of tillers, the length of blades, the length of stalk, the number of leaves on the main stem, the ears stage, harvest, etc, were better in the shallow flat-beds, and provincial type was more worth than standard type, and each experimental plots where heaps of earth were left on the north side of the seed-beds was better compare with other plot on form of ridgeforming.
2) In the first period of growing of the wheat the form of the ridge after the sowing related greatly underground temperature, but March, in the latter stage of growing could not recognized its any difference. This shows that, the difference of the ridge form is reflected on the surface temparature so long as the wheat does not grow thick, while later it exerts influence upon the surface temperature in accordance with the condition of thriving of wheat above the earth and the thriving of stalks and blades above the earth hinders the rising of the surface temperature.
