Abstract
In this study, I intend to make clear the actual conditions of the rental houses on the outskirts of Tokyo during the Taisho period, especially the physical features of four different types of rental houses, their floor plans and some of their fixtures. This study is based on a record of the operation of rental houses, "Shoyuu Kaoku Tatetubozu (Plans of owing rental houses). In chapter 5) and 6), I show that there were four types of rental houses in the Taisho period, and that houses of those types were intermixed in a lot, and were similarly placed in the Edo period.
