ATTEMPT TO SET THE SEISMIC IMPORTANCE FACTOR OF BUILDING BASED ON DAMAGE SITUATION OF SURROUNDING AREA

Abstract

Building standard law in Japan does not mention the seismic importance factor since the low regulates the minimum requirements. On the other hands, the importance categorization is done for government buildings and for industrial facilities, such as high-pressure vessels and nuclear power plant facilities. Though the categorization is given based on the consequences of the damage to buildings and facilities, the basis of importance factors is not mentioned clearly. Focusing on the disaster base buildings, this paper attempts to assign the importance factor from the viewpoint of performance in case of disaster, using the model buildings in the model areas.
