Abstract
This research has been made on the tensile behaviour of concrete, with an intention to provide data to clearify the conditions of crack occurrence in the concrete construction. The outline of the research content is as follows. 1. TENSILE TESTING METHOD The direct tensile testing method using a resin adhesive agent was devised and applied in the test, and good results were obtained. 2. TENSILE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE (a) The crashed light weight aggregate concrete having, as a rule, a small tensile strength in its material, shows a little in crease in tensile strength in the high strengh zone. (b) The pelletized light weight aggregate concrete sticks very poorly to cement paste because of its globular form, and has a constantly smaller F_t/F_c value compared with ordinary concrete. (c) The relation of tensile strength and compressive strength of ordinary concrete was compared with the results of researches made in the past, and it was found nearly in according with the experimental results of Dr. Kanoh. (d) When the tensile strength in the direct tensile testing method was compared with the tensile strength in the spliting testing method, both were comparatively in good agreement in the low strength zone, but the latter showed higher value in the high strength zone.
