Abstract
In this paper, the authors have proposed the method of estimation of the number of elevators based on the results of investigation on the traffic to and from the ward units. (1) We began with the study of the transportation of stretchers and wheel chairs and came to the conclusion that only one big size elevator for bed or stretcher is sufficient to meet demand of hospital up to 1, 000 beds. (2) Secondly, we discussed the movements of personnel and cart relating to the hospital. (3) The transportation load made by visitors during visiting hour is the highest peak in the day. A little more number of passemger elevator is demanded for visitors than hospital personnel.
