Abstract
This is the fifth report of the fundamental investigations for the planning of the public library system to community area. The paper describes the available range of "service area" of a branch library through the actural survey of residential distance of 3304 adult clienteles and 4906 child clienteles at the 9 branch libraries in both areas, Hino and Nagoya. We have found it through the calculating the ratio of the cilenteles to the population of every blocks in the "service Area". As the results, it was sure that while the closer people live to a library the moer they use it, the reducing tendency of the ratio of clienteles to population by a distance is not similary to every directions from the library but sharp towards the town center, slowly towards the opposite side of it because of their daily activity behavier. We present here, therefore, "contour line" like egg-shape, so to speak, which show the possible clienteles around the library, the available service area of the library itself. It seems remarkable also that there are no difference on the shape of the "contour line" between adult clienteles and child clienteles while the absolute vales of the ratio of child clienteles is far high compared to adult ones.
