Abstract
The purpose of this study is to grasp the fire behavior of a compartment fire in activation of a sprinkler system. Numerical simulations using the CFD field model were conducted. The computational results were compared with the full-scale compartment fire experiment in which a sprinkler system was installed. The CFD code, which is the improved verdion of FDS developed in NIST, was used for numerical analysis. When a sprinkler system was not in activation, the computational results of the temperature distribution and the radiation heat flux were in agreement with the experimental results. When a sprinkler system was in activation, the computational results of the radiation heat flux were to close to measurements. The computational results of the temperature distribution showed the tendency to close to experiment results in which the heat transfer coefficient on walls was adjusted. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of the temperature distribution by CFD, it is necessary to investigate further about the heat transfer mechanism on the wall covered with water films.
