Abstract
Environmental degradation has become a serious problem in China. Sulfur dioxide from coal burning is one of the biggest atmospher ic pollutants, especially in thermal power plants, which are the 1 argest source of sulfur dioxide emission. Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) is considered as the most cost-effective option for reducing sulfur dioxide emissions from thermal power plant and China possesses all of the signficant FGD technologies. Various FGD technologies have different performances and investment costs. It is very important to select an efficient and economical FGD technology according the needs of a practical project. In this paper, six prevalent FGD technologies used in China are introduced, and their technical performances and operation features were analyzed and compared. On the basis of these analyses, combined with some FGD demonstration projects in six thermal power plants of China, an comprehensive evaluation index was obtained, which could be used as a reference when selecting FGD technologies.
