The situation of the architecture education in the nations all around the world undergo a lot of changes in these years. There are strong needs to distinguish clearly the architectural design education in Japan from ones in other countries. In this paper, we traced the history of the architecture design education by through the investigation of description of the assignments in the architecture design studio at the university of Tokyo (1970-2005). This historical study will give us an useful insights to consider how we should face the new situation of the architecture education.
