DISCUSSION ABOUT “A NATURAL HAZARD INDEX FOR MEGACITIES”

Abstract

One example of the evaluation of Japanese cities from the viewpoint of a foreign country is “A natural hazard index for megacities” published by Munich Re Group, one of the world’s major reinsurance companies.
Among 50 large cities from around the world that were evaluated, Tokyo and Yokohama showed an exceptionally high score by the index. It is necessary to consider such a report as a warning regarding the safety measures in Japan, to behave responsibly as the world’s second leading economic power. However, it should be noted that the content of the evaluation is limited.
