Abstract
We predicted and then measured the settlement behavior of a raft foundation for a 43-story R/C condominium in order to verify the accuracy of the prediction. The soil was regarded as elasticity in the analysis using the Young’s modulus evaluated from shear wave velocity strain-dependent and confined-pressure-one. The following conclusions were reached:
1) The measured maximum settlement of the foundation was 24mm, which was 80% of the prediction in disregard of the water pressure just below the foundation.
2) The accuracy of the settlement prediction improved when the confined pressure-dependent of the soil stiffness was considered in this case.
3) The prediction method is applicable to heavy buildings on raft foundations that have mean contact pressure of 0.8MN/m2.
