Abstract
The purpose of this research is to clarify city making process of modern era in Monzenmachi towns. We understood a characteristic of Monzenmachi towns in geographical and spatial aspect by reading maps and questionnaire survey for each municipality. We made a classification of Monzenmachi towns in Meiji era from composition elements of them by mathematical quantification theory class III and cluster analysis. Composition elements were road infrastructure to make a pilgrimage, geographical characteristics, railway station and another city facilities location. This research reveals that cities with its root as old Monzenmachi towns was affected according to all composition elements of them.
