Abstract
Shonai Earthquake of 1894 occurred in northwestern part of Yamagata Prefecture with magnitude 7.0 and caused 789 human and 3800 house losses. Collecting and surveying the archived data, the authors have been investigated the detailed damage distribution by local governmental unit. In this study, more minute damage distribution in urbanized area by small block unit is revealed utilizing newly found original documents complied by the local county government at that time. As a result, detailed maps of Sakata and Matsumine towns where the damages were concentrated can be indicated.
