DEVELOPMENTAL PROCESSES OF NEW CITY CENTERS IN THE SOUTHERN SUBURBS OF NIIGATA CITY

–A study on developments of city centers in a provincial core city–

Abstract

From high growth of the Japanese economy from 1960th to 1970th, many new urban centers were developed in provincial core cities.
Also in Niigata city, two city centers has been developed since 1970th in order to expand present city . But their present state differs from their initial plans. This paper focus on the developmental processes of them and declares manly following things.
The districts of these projects has many inefficiently used area because of decline of economy.
And they accelerated decline of city center because they were continued in suburbs even after decline of city center had began.
