Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to derive physical environmental indicators of childcare facilities from now on. We examined actual conditions of approved day nurseries based on a nationwide questionnaire survey and found as follows: (1) Some of day nurseries fall short of the standard of the space with their own classrooms. They meet the criteria adding up to the areas of their own classrooms and another classrooms or playrooms. (2) There are differences in size of the lot area and playgrounds between urban areas and rural areas. In urban areas, both numerical values tend to be small. (3) Many day nurseries desire more space to meet needs for child care support and to divide places to eat and to sleep.
