Abstract

1964 New York World’s Fair marked the first Indonesian appearance in a world exposition after becoming independent. Its appearance was essential, as it was built in a grand pavilion and the only project built outside the country at that period. The pavilion was proposed and controlled intensely by President Sukarno in each of its processes. This study’s purpose is to understand the meaning of Indonesian appearance in the exposition and the architecture of the pavilion through the speeches and ideas delivered by Sukarno. It is concluded that Indonesian Pavilion was an architecture for diplomacy directed by Sukarno’s vision.
