The total management plans and the individual management plans about Japanese local authorities’ public facilities will show the future state of them for the next 30 to 40 years. The aim of these plans are to keep high quality building stocks for the future generations but the method of facilities management is not clarified. In this paper, we would like to clarify the purpose and effect of extending the life span of public facilities. We focus on the existing school facilities and analyze examples of them. Then we propose a management method of rebuilding and improvement combination.
