The authors have been continuing literature surveys on damage appeared in Akita prefecture due to earthquakes occurred in and around her territory. In this paper, the 1964 Niigata earthquake is picked up, which is one of the biggest earthquakes occurred in Japan Sea side and caused various damage to Akita in spite of longer epicentral distance. Literature survey is performed utilizing reports and newspaper articles at that time. Five deceased can be traced in detail. Damage to buildings, roads, railways, lifeline facilities and so on is revealed. Recovering process of lifelines are also listed and discussed.
