Abstract

The family structure in Japan has been drastically changed in accordance with the change of its society structure after World War II. Room layout shall be affected by the change and it shows specifically the demands and the transition of the family structure in each period. In this study, we reviewed 228 Japanese houses from major architecture magazine published after 2000 to clarify the trends of L.D.K. space compositions based on the demands of recent family gathering and communication.
