For the creation of a sustainable urban and regional area, local governments have to explore the town management. It is necessary to plan concrete projects and community-based activities to achieve them. One of the methods is the Charrette workshop. It is essential to acquire technical knowledge for utilizing charrette workshop (CWS) in local cities. This paper describes the effectiveness and potential of CWS for local governments. Especially, it was shown that a CWS in collaboration with a community of local residents is effective for promoting the examination of detailed contents at the stage after some specific projects are planned.
