Abstract

MEMS acceleration sensors were attached to columns, beams, a wall of a full-scale RC frame specimen subjected to static cyclic lateral loads. Rotation angles of the sensors relative to the gravitational acceleration direction were measured. The changes of the measured angles were used to calculate the story drift of the frame specimen, assuming deflection curves. The results showed that, the story drift measured by the sensors agreed with that measured by conventional methods; adopting this system to vertical members was more effective than to horizontal members; the accuracy of the measurement was influenced by shear cracks and yielding of reinforcement.
