Abstract

The paper reports about investigations of the failure of ceilings at public music hall at Shiroishi during the earthquake off the Fukushima coast on March 16, 2022. The heavy ceilings were suspended by hanging bolts, which were cut during the earthquake. Thus, detailed investigation is conducted using SEM. It was found that the cut occurred due to cyclic bending deformation of the bolts. Difference of the length of hanging bolts were also considered. Dynamic behavior of the structures was investigated using microtremor measurement method.
