Whitworth screws have customarily been used for hanging bolts used for seismic support of suspended lightweight equipment such as air conditioners. However, the material properties and cross-sectional characteristics against bending of Whitworth screws are not clear because they are not described as current JIS standards. This study systematically clarifies the material properties and cross-sectional characteristics against bending of Whitworth screws, and examines the effect of mounting hardware used in the connection between hanging bolts and braces on the stiffness of units consisting of suspended lightweight equipment and other support members.
