Abstract

This paper proposes a hybrid method for topology optimization of frame structures, combining a mathematical programming with the ESO (Evolutionary Structural Optimization) method. In this method, ineffective elements are deleted from the initial ground structure using the ESO method as the first process until the target total mass ratio is satisfied. The following process uses a mathematical programming method to derive the optimal solution from the initial solution solved by the ESO method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by comparing it with the conventional methods (the CONLIN method and the IESO method) on the basic examples.
