Against the backdrop of a very low birthrate, an aging population, a shift of population to urban areas, and a shift to nuclear families, local communities are becoming increasingly diluted. The need for a different kind of community formation has been pointed out, and “local places to stay” are attracting attention as a social resource in many areas. This report focuses on Fujisawa City’s “Chiiki-no-Engawa” project, a community-based “place for the community” in which the city is involved, and clarifies the characteristics of the case study and the actual conditions of the users.
