Abstract
Mt. Usu in Hokkaido, one of the active volcanoes in Japan, has been erupting since 31 March 2000. In surrounding towns, houses, buildings, water pipes and roads have been damaged, because of the volcanic activities, such as ballistic ejecta, mudflow, earthquakes, and crustal deformation. This paper describes the survey on damaged buildings operated by Abuta Town and Hokkaido Government. We found out that a lot of bases are damaged or destroyed by the surface ground deformation. And then, we made GIS maps of damaged buildings with regard to volcanic damage assessment.
