A software application, SoilBroker, has been developed to provide agricultural models with consistent access to heterogeneous soil databases using MetBroker's mediation technology. SoilBroker is middleware that operates between client applications and soil databases to mask differences between soil databases in data expression and retrieval method. SoilBroker provides many other useful features, including two different access modes, metadata handling, and the provision of JavaBeans components. Up to 19 soil elements are handled by SoilBroker's abstract model. SoilBroker demonstrates new ways of using soil data on the Internet.
