Abstract
This paper explores the acquisition of learning outcomes in foreign language education, with a specific focus on teaching “formal expressions for Japanese interaction” at a Japanese language institution. This institution aims to train scholars in Japanese Studies as well as business professionals working in Japan and the U.S. The study also investigates the types of educational practices employed to help learners acquire a perception of a “polite” self-image through learning Japanese.
