Abstract
Recent societal changes in the Kamchatka peninsula have resulted in more frequent human-caused forest fire. We had an opportunity to actually observe the forest fire on Betula forest in Esso district, and We also observed the adjacent burned area of Larix forest. It was confirmed that the forest fire in the Betula forest was occurred by smoldering combustion. The damage-degrees of young trees were very low, but most of old trees were collapsed by fire. On the Larix forest, the tree mortality of the forest fire was very high, and the post-fire recovery of vegetation had hardly advanced for 6 years after the forest fire. The rill and gully erosion on burned slopes had not occurred following the fires, but many small landslides occurred on the slopes.
