Abstract
Surface micro-topography and structure of the Taisho lava flow in the western slope of Sakurajima volcano have been studied with aerial photograph interpretation, eye-witness records, and geomorphological and geological surveys in the field. It has been made clear that the Taisho lava flow is composed of the upper pyroclastic welded spatter and lower lava flow parts. The fact suggests that the main eruption for the lava flow occurred with simultaneous spatter ejection and lava flow effusion at the fissure crater in the western slope.
