Abstract
Xuanzang was born near Luoyan in 602. When he was 27 years old he started to India for studying the truth of Buddhism. It was a lonely departure, since none of Chinese was allowed to travel to other country at that time. After 17 years of long journey, he came back to Chan’an. The emperor of Taizong asked him about all the things of the countries that he has visited in the West. From the book he wrote “Da Tang Xiyou-ji”, we can learn the whole route of his long journey. The study about Xuanzang has been forwarded into the Buddhistic study, historical study and Wistorical study of arts. In spite of its importance in the geographical field, we can’t find anybody who ever mentioned “Da Tang Xiyou-ji” in geographical reviews. I strongly feel it’s necessity to restudy his whole journey again. In this respect, therefore, I tried hard to find his route from WuWei to Chang’an from the CORONA Satellite Photographys. From the fact of Xuanguag’s glorious return compared to his lonely departure I can hardly believe that he has taken the same route back to China. I have a strong feeling that his route of journey was different between WuWei and Chan’g an onward and backward. Someday I strongly wish to the truth which will change the general opinion about the route of his journey.
