Abstract
In this paper, attempts are made to detect the various biotope types and their distribution in the southern Pantanal, where human impacts on natural environment are limited in comparison with northern Pantanal. As a result, 17 biotope types, formed by the interaction between annual variation of river water level (2m) and location conditions, are detected by examining vegetation formation and folk taxonomy of native peoples. In addition, the distribution of biotope types in Faz. Baía Bonita was delimitated in the map by using potable GPS (Global Positioning System).
